Galveston, Texas

We made it to Galveston yesterday (Sunday) early in the morning. Because it was still dark, we actually had less of an event going into Galveston as we did going into Freeport.

However, Carnival made up for it yesterday as they invited travel agents, government officials, other important people, and over 1,000 citizens of Galveston (also Rexie and me, but we are not part of the list previously given) to attend a day and evening of FUN! We attended the Maroon 5 concert in the afternoon and finally found out who they were. At least we could understand most of the words and the language was acceptable for the young ones. Then, the FUN continued as numerous entertainers were on board and entertained everyone for this Inaugural sailing into/out of Galveston.

These people know how to have fun. I guess I should probably point out that the food and drink was provided free of charge. This included an open bar which was enjoyed by everyone. Most stayed overnight and left this morning as the next group of cruisers came on board.

I have to tell you that the entire feel of the ship is very different from the Transatlantic. On the TA, over 80% of the guests were over 60. We only had 70 kids under the age of 18. Now, probably only 10% are over the age of 60 and we noticed a whole herd of kids on board.

Did I mention that we are in TEXAS? They say everything is bigger in Texas. I have to tell you that they know how to drink bigger and know how to make noise bigger! So much for the quiet cruise...

Today we left about an hour and a half late as they tested the stern thruster that they did not finish in Freeport. They had brought on board everything not finished and worked the last couple of days to get it working.

As we tested the thruster leaving Galveston, they found out that everything was NOT OK. So, we are going to Progreso for two days instead of Costa Maya while they make adjustments and hopefully (cross your fingers) get this problem resolved for good.

Most people are ticked off at Carnival. Did I mentioned we are in Texas? Trust me when I say they also know how to complain bigger (louder). The good thing is many of them had no idea what they were complaining about (remember the drinking?).

So, as we head to Progreso, we can only hope they know how to sleep bigger... I wonder if their hangover is bigger?

Later!
