Rome - Part 3

As we leave Trevi9 Fountain, we have seen two amazing sights in Rome and it is still morning. We now walk to our bus to head to an Italian restaurant for lunch. While we only walked a few blocks to get to the Trevi Fountain, little did we realize that we would be walking almost two miles to get to the bus.

As we walk, we see many interesting sights once more.

We thought we were going to the Spanish Steps to catch the bus. As you can see, the tourists were in force at the Spanish steps. Yes, we made it to the Spanish steps, but only to take a couple of pictures, get our group together once again, and then we moved out.

As we walk, the sidewalks are very narrow and crowded. Our tour bus is strung out along the street for blocks. So we keep walking and eventually we come to the Piazza del Popolo and get our first glimpse of one of the ancient gates into the old city.

As we enter the plaza, it is amazing. We find out that this was the northern gate for ancient Rome. At one time, they held public executions in this square.

I mentioned that at one time, we were probably strung out for blocks along the Roman street. Well, we lost one of our group. Somewhere, this person was not with us and missed one of the turns after the Spanish Steps as we were all together then. Luckily, we had been given the guides cell phone number and the lost person was able to call the guide and get directions on how to meet the bus so we could continue on to the restaurant.

Next blog, we will look at the Tiber River and our meal at a truly Italian restaurant.
